Saying yes to new opportunities: Filippa's journey at BDO Sweden

Filippa Ackman
Senior Tax Associate
BDO Sweden

Filippa began her journey at BDO in January 2023 after completing her law studies at the School of Business, Economics and Law in Gothenburg. Already during her studies, she had heard many positive things about BDO, especially about the culture and the opportunities to develop.

During a careers fair, she took the initiative to have an introductory conversation, which later led to an interview with HR and then with the tax team in Gothenburg. When the offer of employment came, the choice felt obvious.

Since joining, Filippa has made the most of the opportunity to influence and contribute. Early in her career, she initiated a collaboration with the Law Association at the School of Business, Economics and Law, an idea she presented to the tax team and was trusted to lead. Just a few months later, an event with the association was held with the aim of getting to know each other.

Coming forward with ideas and suggestions is always welcomed. Even as a very new employee, I was given the opportunity to take part in client meetings and present solutions to clients together with my manager. That has given me both confidence and practical experience.

Today, she remains actively involved in student relations and represents BDO at the School of Business, Economics and Law in Gothenburg in her role as Employer Branding Lead.

Community and collaboration are central to Filippa’s everyday work. Colleagues share knowledge, support one another and develop together, both through daily work and continuous feedback.

Her own development became clear when she was promoted in autumn 2025, but also through opportunities such as presenting on stage together with a partner in front of colleagues after only six months at BDO, and shortly afterwards taking part as a speaker at a client event.

At BDO, we work closely together and feedback is a natural part of the way we work, both to highlight strengths and to create learning within the group.

What drives Filippa most is the relationships with clients. For her, the work is meaningful not only because it involves solving specific questions, but because it creates added value and builds long-term partnerships. Returning clients are the clearest proof that she is making a difference.

Looking ahead, Filippa has a clear direction: to become an authorised tax advisor specialising in entrepreneur taxation. She wants to continue developing in her role, take on greater responsibility in assignments and at the same time support and coach junior colleagues.

One thing I really appreciate about my job is that the career opportunities feel endless if you are willing to take them. You are the only one who can limit your own development, and there is so much to learn from both colleagues and clients.

When she is not working, Filippa leads an active life with training, golf and a strong interest in reading. This year, her goal is to read 41 books.

She also enjoys spending time with her family, who all live nearby, and travelling whenever she gets the chance, preferably to Nice, where she appreciates the combination of good food, the surroundings and the proximity to both Cannes and Monaco.
