From intern to full-time: Amalie's journey at BDO Norway

Amalie Baugerød
Associate, Tech, Data & AI
BDO Norway

Amalie joined BDO Norway as an intern in autumn 2025 while still studying, alongside a fellow student. Both later moved into permanent roles.

Looking back, what stands out it’s how quickly she felt part of the team. From day one, she was welcomed, involved in the work, and given the confidence that she was in the right place to start her career.

That's what shaped her experience at BDO Norway: a collaborative culture where people share what they know, and where contributions are encouraged, whether someone is just starting out or has years of experience behind them.

For me, thinking beyond means being a trusted partner for our clients. Someone they can rely on to take initiative, introduce new ideas, and suggest innovative solutions. This can include leveraging new technologies in the market to make their solutions more cost-effective or create even greater value in other ways.

We actively challenge and inspire our clients by bringing fresh perspectives and ideas to the table beyond what they initially see themselves. By combining curiosity with strong expertise, we explore new possibilities and better ways of working.

This mindset keeps us proactive internally while helping our clients stay ahead in an ever-evolving tech landscape.

A good example comes from her team’s work with AI. Because AI is broad and complex, and still unfamiliar for many organisations, having different strengths in the room matters. Some colleagues bring strategy and business understanding, others go deep on the technology, and others focus on the risks that come with implementation. Working closely across those perspectives helps the team see the bigger picture and support clients more effectively.

Right now, I’m diving into AI technology and how we can implement these solutions in client systems. It’s incredibly motivating going to work knowing that I get to develop skills in areas I’m genuinely passionate about.

Even though I’m relatively new, I’m trusted with advanced technologies and complex projects, and I’m given real ownership of our deliveries. It gives my job a sense of meaning.

What keeps you motivated day to day?

I am fortunate in being surrounded by people who inspire me to grow, learn, and become better. There is a genuine sense of care, and it makes me feel truly seen and supported.

No matter your role or level, conversations flow easily, and ideas and new perspectives are always valued. The people I work with are not just colleagues; they are friends and supporters. We bring out the best in each other every single day.

Learning by doing, with room to explore

Amalie describes her growth as steady and ongoing, shaped by being encouraged to explore different projects and find where she thrives. She talks about learning as something that happens every day: building on the strengths around her, stepping into new areas with support, and then being able to support others in return.

When asked about her advice for anyone considering joining BDO, she keeps it simple:

To anyone considering a career at BDO, my advice would be to believe in yourself and your capabilities, you have far more to offer than you might think. Dare to take the leap.
